THE PALM RECORDINGS
BOX SET
BYARD LANCASTER

Released in October 2024 by Souffle Continu Records, Byard Lancaster – The Complete Palm Recordings 1973–1974 is a definitive deluxe edition dedicated to the Philadelphia-born jazz visionary Byard Lancaster. It brings together his four landmark albums originally released on Jef Gilson’s Palm label in the 1970s—Us (including an additional 7-inch EP), Mother Africa, Exactement (2LP), and Funny Funky Rib Crib—alongside the first-ever standalone edition of Love Always. The set also includes a 20-page booklet featuring rare photographs and an in-depth essay on Lancaster’s Paris years by Pierre Crépon.

As part of the Palm Redux Series, the project adheres to its established visual codes while introducing specific adaptations for this format, particularly in the design of the 20-page booklet and the exclusive obi strips. What follows is a detailed selection of the graphic and iconographic work, largely drawing on Jean-Jacques Pussiau’s remarkable photographic archive.

I would like to thank Bernard and Théo of Souffle Continu Records for their trust and for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this project.
